Box Tops

Would you like to volunteer for this committee?

Goals and Objectives

The Box Top Coordinator raises money for the Newman PTC by coordinating Newman’s Box Top Program.  This is done by the Newman community collecting/cutting out 10¢ box tops, from General Mills product packaging, and sending them into school. Newman collects about $1,000 each year. That’s 10,000 box tops collected or 20 box tops per family.

Events

There is an annual classroom contest each year to collect the most box tops over the summer, with the winning classroom receiving a pizza party.

The Newman community may shop on-line via boxtopsforeducation.com and earn the PTC 8% of their sales. The Newman community may also give (1% of purchases) to the PTC by using a ‘Box Tops for Education’ credit card.

Volunteer Responsibility

Box Tops Coordinator is responsible for keeping everyone at Newman Elementary School informed (via email, newsletter or flyers), generating enthusiasm (create contests or incentives), and collecting and submitting Box Tops for earnings checks. Box Tops have many preprinted marketing tools for assisting the box tops committee.

Box Tops for Education have established two deadlines for collecting box tops. The first collection date is usually late November and the second is late March.

Collecting box tops involves, but not limited to: sending out a flyer describing the program and participating brands; reminding the Newman community of the deadlines; and collecting, cutting and sorting the box tops. This may be done individually or by a committee of volunteers (3-4 people). Children love this! The time spent is reflective of the amount raised for the Newman PTC.
